A New Chapter for Australian Timber Flooring
Australian timber has long been valued for its strength, durability and unmistakable character. Yet for many architects and designers, there has often been a disconnect between the desire to specify Australian species and the colour palettes available within the market.
This observation became the starting point for Aloura.
Created by George Fethers & Co., Aloura was developed in response to a gap we repeatedly encountered in design studios and architectural practices. While Australian timbers such as Blackbutt and Spotted Gum were consistently admired for their provenance and performance, their dramatic colour variation and strong red and orange undertones could make them challenging to incorporate into the calm, refined interiors increasingly defining contemporary design.
Reimagining Australian Timber
Aloura does not seek to change the nature of Australian timber. Instead, it celebrates it through a more considered lens.
Drawing on the inherent durability of Blackbutt and Spotted Gum, the collection thoughtfully refines their aesthetic qualities. Carefully developed finishes and colour treatments soften traditional contrasts while retaining the natural variation and authenticity that make timber such a compelling material.
The result is a collection that feels distinctly Australian while sitting comfortably within modern interiors.
Designed for Contemporary Spaces
Across six curated colours, Pilarus, Maculata, Ignarra, Creta, Vespera and Penumbra, the collection draws inspiration from the Australian landscape. The palette moves from warm sunlit tones through to rich, grounded and moody hues.
Each colour has been developed to complement modern materials and finishes, creating opportunities for designers to specify Australian timber in projects where previously they may have looked elsewhere.
Beauty Meets Performance
Beyond aesthetics, Aloura delivers the performance expected from Australian hardwood flooring.
Crafted from Australian-grown Blackbutt and Spotted Gum, the collection combines natural durability with a seven-layer matt lacquer finish, providing a hardwearing surface suitable for residential and commercial environments. A P3 slip rating comes standard, ensuring practicality alongside design integrity.
A Considered Material
At George Fethers & Co., we believe materials should evolve alongside design.
Aloura represents our commitment to creating products that balance performance, beauty and authenticity. It is a flooring collection designed not simply as a surface, but as a considered material. One that feels grounded, enduring and naturally aligned with the way contemporary spaces are designed today.
